New Year ~ New Beginnings ~ New Me?

We all know that with each New Year there are certain ‘expectations‘ that come with it.  ‘Standards of Excellence‘ if you will.  We’ve come to know them as ‘resolutions‘†.

Resolutions vary from the mundane to the extreme,  some are highly thought out,  others just a whim. There are the standards of losing weight,  quitting smoking, exercise more, spend more time with the family,  get that promotion,  become healthier, etc, and we all know these very well. I’m not negating any of these,  as they are, and will continue to be, valid, but what about those ‘out of the box’ resolutions?

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do,  yet now(for your own reasons and/or restraints)are held back from or does it require a bit of adaptive thought to yet BE accomplished?  Is there a fear that needs conquering?  Is there someone you need to reacquaint yourself with?  Is there forgiveness you seek or needs to be given? Do you know who you TRULY  are and do those around you know ‘you’ too? Have you ever asked another person to describe to you what they see you as,  and is theirs and your own self description, for the most part,  similar and in tandem?

Everyone desires to be the ‘BEST’ ME they can be.  Everyone wants to reach the resolutions they’ve set for themselves.  Everyone considers becoming the ‘NEW ME’. I say a new me is in the view of others. Don’t be afraid to ask others who you are. You may just find your new me in the ‘YOU’ they see, but you haven’t,  until now.

Live every moment – love every day
‘cus before you know it your precious time slips away.
Live every moment – love every day
’cause if you don’t you might just throw your love away.

I walked for seven miles this mornin’. footprints in the #sand.
#Washed away without a warning when the water hit the land.
But I will #walk on ’til I can no longer stand.

First I HAVE to say “Thank You” for not only for  bringing medical awareness  and offering education on Thrombotic disorders, issues, and treatments on a global scale to Healthcare providers, but in that the same was offered to DVT/PE patients as well.

I was an attendee of the free DVT/PE webinar sponsored by three nonprofit organizations whose missions are dedicated 100% to clotting/thrombotic/emobolitc research, information, support, and advancement in their training of awareness and education.  The physician was very informative, while at the same time, for me, it was also comprehendable.  There were several topics covered within the presentation itself that had been concerns of mine. At the conclusion, there was an allotted time for any additional questions and/or concerns by the attendees.  There were several good inquiries from a wide spectrum of topics, yet he answered each one of them in turn. I was very impressed with this opportunity, and would hope there may be more to come in the near future.

New Scientific Review Confirms Blood Clots in Leg and Lungs (VTEardiovascular Killer Globally –

Is Leading Cause of Death and Disability in Hospitals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — While the world’s top two cardiovascular killers – heart attack and stroke – are global health priorities, the No. 3 killer, venous thromboembolism (VTE) or blood clots in the leg and lungs, has remained largely unaddressed and under-recognized by the public, according to the most comprehensive scientific review of the global burden of VTE ever undertaken and a global public survey. To address this disconnect, the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) is leading a global effort together with more than 175 health/medical and patient organizations around the world to launch World Thrombosis Day (WTD), focused initially on increasing public and health professionals’ awareness of potentially deadly blood clots in the leg and lungs, the risk factors, symptoms and the importance of prevention.

Recovering with Brian Vickers – Blood Clot Recovery Network™

Another inspiring, informative, and personal blog post from my friends at BCRN that I just HAD to share!

Here’s a excerpt from the article Recovering with Brian Vickers

“When I was first diagnosed with at DVT and subsequent PE in June of 2012, I had never felt more alone in my entire life. Once I reached out to some support group online, my loneliness turned into a desire to help bring awareness to blood clots and the life-threatening dangers they present.”

On Top Of The World – Imagine Dragons
Survivor Strong a video by Willoweagle

As I am sitting here going over the posts, stats, and comments of this blog over the past week, I am not only flattered and touched, but inspired again.

In sharing my son’s story, it was quite the decision. There were many things to consider. The first being in how would he respond. The second was would anyone be interested. On both, I was proven incorrect.

My son did respond, but not exactly the
way I expected. It was a totally positive one. I had expected to defend, in some degree, my reasons about why I had.  I was prepared to do just this on receiving his first call after posting. I had everything ready. None of it was needed. For that, I say thank you ♡.

As for my second concern, I must honestly and wholeheartedly say I’m flabbergasted and sincerely flattered!!!

For these posts to not only be a series and so personal, yet posted during the middle of the week, I am amazed and humbled by what the stats have proven it to be an unfounded and near grossly ridiculous.

I would be terribly remiss in not thanking you – the reader – in taking your time which there is so little of in our busy hectic day-to-day schedules for reading and taking this journey. It is because of you that I share. Support and understanding during a difficult, life changing experience is all anyone can ask for and on receiving it, a great relief. There are no masks here. This is real. This is life. Thank you.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 ~ As my car was growing wings racing to get to Andrew, a major revelation came swimming slowly toward the front of my brain begging to be noticed despite the chaos. Antithrombin…..3!!

“Barry. You’ve got to tell them something veRy important.” My voice was much calmer though i had no idea where the control was coming from.
“Now this is a long name so if I need to I’ll spell it out for you but it’s imperative that you tell the doctor that there’s a family blood disorder. It’s a clotting disorder. It’s life threatening. Its called Antithrombin 3. You hear me? Anti….thrombin…..3!!”
“Got it”
“You sure? ”
“Positive!”
“Hang tight. .. I’m coming! ”

Reflections ~ A Mother’s POV: Part III

In the chapel at St. John's hospital, this candle lit for my son burned his entire stay.

Sunday, June 5, 2011 ~ Once again the phone rings and rings. ..and again with the voice mail.. again. ..I leave no message. Ok, this is no longer the norm. He should’ve called back or picked up by now. Numerous tries to contact my son had come to no avail. The only update I’d received was from the friend he was staying with in the form of a Facebook message. That just didn’t cut it anymore. Although quite the detailed update, something wasn’t right that he should be sleeping this much. Concern, worry, and fear were the emotions of the day. Yet, I kept thinking to myself, he’s grown, he’s fine, quit hovering!

I spent a wasted night in the bed that night as I tossed, turned, and worried. Sleep escaped me.

Monday, June 6, 2011 ~ I check the phone again as I get up and ready for work. Still no calls! The commute seems like a long one without The Kid to talk to. On arriving at my destination, I alert any of my co-workers that know my son’s voice, to let me know IMMEDIATELY if he should call, no matter where or what! Which of course lead to questions followed by brief descriptions of what was going on.

“I told them over and over I was not drinking!  They didn’t believe me. Sure, you could smell alcohol. I just came from a BAR!!” The voice on the other end of this call was miffed, to say the least. The frustration at not being believed was tangible. This was one irritated, frustrated, and nearly (should I say it?) pissed off 22 year-old.
” I told them! And they just kept ignoring me……
